Black Roasted Sesame Oil

Overview

Black roasted sesame oil is a powerful, fragrant liquid derived from roasted black sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum). It has a rich nutty aroma with a deep, over-toasted earthy scent. While regular sesame oil is derived from raw sesame seeds, black roasted sesame oil is prepared from roasted sesame seeds, which gives it a deeper flavor and possibly more antioxidants.

Chemical Composition

Roasting intensifies the inherent nutty taste of black sesame seeds, developing new, richer, and toastier overtones. Unlike essential oil, which is steam distilled, this oil is cold pressed from roasted seeds, resulting in a dark brown, nearly black oil with an intense flavor. Black sesame seeds contain essential elements for the body, including healthy fats, proteins, and antioxidants. Although some nutrients may be diminished during roasting, black roasted sesame oil still includes antioxidants like sesamin and sesamol, which can help fight free radicals that damage cells.
